Oregon Coast

August 23-25:  It's always fun to go camping on the Oregon Coast.  We load up our little pop up tent trailer and our 3 crazy boys and drive for a few hours and bam...we're at the coast:)  This time we camped at Beachside State Recreation Area.  The only stipulation I give Hyrum when he is choosing where to camp is that it has to have flush toilets and showers.  This campground had both and also had private camp sites in the woods, which we really like.

When we first showed up at the campground it was totally fogged in, you couldn't even see the ocean from the top of the sand dunes!

This is a photo of Emerson flying a kite.  It was so windy he had to lay down in the sand so he wouldn't get swept up with the kite.  The ocean is out there behind him...you just can't see it.

Lucky for us the next day was a beautiful sunny day!

Hyrum and the boys spent a lot of time digging a fort into the sand.  It ended up being a nice place to sit to get out of the wind.

Townsend is always up for throwing the football or kicking the soccer ball at the beach

Emerson trying to get a bit of shade so he can rest

The water was pretty cold but Julian was brave enough to go stomping in the waves

Julian and Emerson enjoy some yummy camp food

We took a small trip to Yaquina Head Lighthouse.  It was already closed for the day so we didn't get to go on a tour inside...maybe next time.

We spent some time exploring the tide pools at the lighthouse.  Lot's of anemones and a few starfish but not super impressive.  I think the boys favorite part was the cool rocky beach.  The whole beach was little round pebbles, perfect for throwing in the water.

Ending our day with s'mores...it doesn't get much better than that!
