Soccer

The twins played "church soccer" again this year and Julian was old enough to join a team as well.  This is an 8 week soccer camp that only meets Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (no Saturday games or practices to get to...love it!)  The cost is $6 and that is to pay for the t-shirt they get.  All the coaches just volunteer their time and the kids are mainly there to have fun.  My twins love it and Townsend especially really loved playing this year and almost convinced me to put him in a real soccer league...almost.  Julian was OK during practice but he hated playing during the games, unless he was the goalie.  I think it had to do with the fact that at 4 years old all the players on either team are just pushing each other around trying to get the soccer ball.  There is no "offense" or "defense" at that age and Julian just didn't like being pushed around by a big group of kids.  I told him to just stand in the middle of the field and then if the ball came to him that he could kick it.  This tactic worked pretty well but he was really bored most of the game and lost interest really easily.  Emerson loved soccer and practiced in the back yard with Townsend almost every day.  I think the twins could really do well on a regular team but I just don't know if I'm willing to give up my Saturdays to a kids sport.

Julian during practice.  He loved kicking the ball around but just didn't love the jumble of people during games.

Get that ball Townsend!

Hyrum took the older boys to a real soccer game.  The Portland Timbers vs. The Salt Lake City Reals.  At the end of the game the score was 0-0 but the boys had a lot of fun being at the game.  This was their first sport/stadium experience.
