Hyrum, Townsend, Emerson, and Craig went on a four-day, 50 mile backpacking trip in the Goat Rocks wilderness of Washington. They didn't do a lot of training, so this was hard work! It was also a unique chance to be away from phones, work, school, and the other trapping of life for a few days. They had an amazing time.
Here they are at the start of the trip-- Just getting started!
They hiked along the Pacific Crest Trail for the whole hike. Through-hiking the whole PCT has been a long-time faint dream of Hyrum's, so even though this was just a tiny piece of that hike, it was still fun to be spending 4 days on that famous trail.
The first night was spent by a little pond west of Walupt lake. It was a long day of hiking, but not too much elevation gain.
The next day was a long, hard day, with steep climbs. But the scenery was amazing, everyone just kept going, and they also had the chance to take a lunch break at Sheep Lake.
They hiked along the crest of the Cascades most of the way, briefly walking east of the crest on the Yakima reservation.
Here is Emerson after a very difficult, hot climb up to Cispus Pass. Well done!
It was then a beautiful, relatively flat walk for a couple more hours until camp.
They had a beautiful view of Mount Adams once they got to camp.
The next day was the highlight of the trip, hiking up to the ridge of the Cascades as the PCT crosses the summit of the Goat Rocks. The weather was perfect, and despite the hard work and steep climbs, they enjoyed the constant, amazing views.
