August: Coraline Cats, Dog Sitting, Sauvie Island, Peaches, Biking, Muddy Sailing,

Although our trip to Scotland took up a good part of August we did do some other fun things together as a family:)

The animation studio, LAIKA, is based in Portland. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of their movie "Coraline" they put up cats all around the city. They were painted in different ways and the boys and I spent an afternoon in downtown Portland trying to find as many as we could. I think we ended up finding 7 cats.

Julian wanted to get a job this summer to save up some money for Japan. Unfortunately no-one hires 15 year olds. Our neighbor was going out of town for 2 weeks and offered to pay Julian to watch his dogs. Julian does not like dogs, even a little, but he took the job and I was very proud of him for being super responsible and taking such good care of the dogs every day.

Our one and only trip to Sauvie Island beach. When the kids were little I would be here almost once a week. It's sad watching your kids grow up and not be interested in doing the things they used to love.

Julian had to get his school ID picture taken so I made him shave his fuzzy face.
Before...

...After. He was sad to loose the beard but he looks much more like my little boy now:)

We went peach picking with Melissa and Liam Ashby. The boys had fun playing in the tree house...not so much fun picking peaches!

We tried out a new trail on a family bike ride. This one was in Vancouver, Washington.

Julian and Dad found a great seat to rest on.

We went for an evening sail one night. Hyrum anchored the boat and we swam over to a little island. The boys were hesitant to get in the water (it wasn't a super warm day) but once they saw mom  and dad do it then they eventually swam over.

They found this awesome mud hole to play in. Hyrum "found" the hole originally by almost sinking all the way in...but we got him out. Then the boys had fun trying to see how deep the hole was. Luckily they had to swim back to get into the boat so all the mud got washed away!

Anytime we get to spend with our three boys is well spent. They are growing up so fast and we know it can't be like this forever so we will appreciate it while we can:)
