"Angels Rest" Hike

On March 22nd we had a beautiful sunny Saturday so we decided to take the boys for a hike.  There are many great hikes in the Portland area so we just had to decide which one to take.  We chose "Angels Rest" because it's a relatively easy hike (only 3 miles one way) and you get a spectacular view at the top.  We thought the boys would enjoy running around the rocks at the top of this hike.  I had no idea there would be such a steep drop off and I nearly had about 10 heart attacks but everyone was fine in the end...no one fell to their death:)

I know the sign says only 2.3 miles but Hyrum said it was more like 3 miles by the time you reached the actual summit.  The boys did really well on the hike.

Townsend and Julian on the way up the mountain.

It's slow going when you have a 5 year old walking.  He is just way too big for the back pack and the trail wasn't stroller friendly.  We took our time and enjoyed the journey...

...and this is what we did when we felt we needed to pick up the pace a bit:)

Playing on the rocks at the summit.  That's close enough Julian!!  What a great view of the Columbia River.  You could see for miles in all directions, it was a spectacular viewpoint.

After a quick snack and a family photo we headed back down the trail.

Emerson resting near the stream on our way back to the car.  It was a long day but we all had a great time.  I'm so glad we live in a place where we can take off for a fun day of hiking whenever the weather plays along.
