The boys all really wanted to go back to Maui this year since they remembered having such a fun time last January. We tried to make it work for Spring Break so they wouldn't miss any school but the plane tickets were so expensive! We decided to take them the first week of May because there was a 3 day weekend off school and the plane tickets were a lot more reasonable. We had such a great time...but you can't really go wrong with a trip to Hawaii!
Must be in Hawaii when your welcome committee is a bunch of chickens!
After the long flight and getting settled into our hotel the boys just wanted to relax and go to the pool but I came to Hawaii for the BEACH and couldn't resist an evening stroll with Hyrum in Wailea
Our first Maui sunset of the trip
One of the main reasons Julian wanted to go back to Maui was for this restaurant he calls "Potato Duck" because he said this sign looked like it was half potato/half duck 😂 It's really named "Kihei Caffe" and I think he went here for breakfast 3 times in our 6 day trip!
Yummy breakfast at "Potato Duck"
We found a stranded sail boat on the beach in Kihei...there was a crew that spent about 7 hours trying to haul it off the beach.
The beach in Kihei had the best waves and the boys had a lot of fun using the boogie boards we found at our condo
Another solo walk with Hyrum, we quickly realized the boys were happy to do one or maybe two things during the day but then they really wanted to go back to the condo to relax with their phones and iPads.
Another beautiful sunset in Maui
The boys came would turn off screens if shave ice was promised:)
We got up fairly early one morning to drive the road to Hana town. First stop was Haiku so we could get some warm, fresh out of the oven banana bread from Aunty Sandy's
Pit stop to stretch our legs in Haiku. We walked around the old, black, rocky lava flow.
Very cool banyan tree on the Pīpīwai trail
After driving so long in the car this hike along the Pīpīwai trail is fantastic. You see 2 amazing waterfalls and hike through a cool bamboo forest
At Waimoku Falls, your reward for driving all the way out to Hana and hiking 2 miles on the Pipiwai trail!
The last time we were in Maui with our boys there was no water to swim in at Waioka Pond (or Venus Pool) We really lucked out this time because the water was just amazing. The twins both jumped from pretty high up on the cliff, maybe 25 feet and I very bravely jumped 4 feet into the fresh water pool. What a wonderful way to freshen up after such a long day in the car and a long hike.
Julian at the entrance to a short little lava tube we explored
Emerson and Julian coming out of the lava tube at the other end of the tunnel
We stopped for a short little walk through the Ke'anae arboretum. I love these rainbow eucalyptus trees that were brought here from Australia
Julian once again enjoying breakfast at "Potato Duck" The twins and I opted for sleeping in:)
We went into Kahului for the Maui swap meet. The boys found some t-shirts they wanted and I got some yummy treats.
Shave ice!!
Hyrum and I walked along the Hoapili trail. It was a cool and pleasant afternoon, perfect for this lava trail that had very little shade cover
On the road up to Haleakala volcano to see the sun set
On top of Haleakala
Haleakala crater. I love the different colors you can see in this crater
The sunset from the top of Haleakala...one of my favorite places to see the sun set
We took a sailboat trip out to Molokini crater for some snorkeling
The color of that water was so amazing, Hyrum enjoyed just floating around
We got to sail a bit on the way back to Maui, such a fun day
Hyrum and I walked around the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge. We saw some pretty birds and I took a photo of my cute toes:)
The sunsets never get old in Hawaii
Our final day in Maui, spent the entire morning at the beach. We snorkeled, played in the waves and lounged in the warm sand
Mokapu beach
One final shave ice at Ululani's
Our last sunset. Goodby Maui, until next time...Aloha 🌴
